What is it with relationships that make them too hard to manage and stay in for a long time?   There are exceptions such as people who are living happily ever after since they have found somebody to love but in general there are more who are in constant distress because of relationship problems that often end up in separation.  Do you really want to get your lost love back? This is a question you need to be clear on before you set about mending broken relationships. You should be prepared for disappointments, because your ex may have moved on.

Whatever it was that broke you two apart, there might or might not be a solution that would help patch things up.   For example, if your problem is your lack of concern for her and support for her dreams and interests, you can work on it by yourself and try to be more supportive.  If you behaved too obnoxiously and acted like an alpha male all the time, it might do you well to show your feminine side; open up with your feelings and be empathetic to hers - at the same time, be the protector she wants you to be.

There are quite a few things you'll have to alter in order to win back your ex. Since it can be difficult to alter your existing personality traits, you may find it difficult to be the person she wants you to be. There are things you might not want to change about yourself, and in that case you have to decide which is more important, staying who you are or being with her. We don't dream of sharing our life with every person we meet. So if you know that your ex is that special person in your life, then you should give it all you have to make it work with her.

Of course, all women love a romantic man.  Women are always taken aback by grand gestures such as surprising them with a picnic lunch basket that has cranberry chutney for dessert and such.  If you show her the lengths to which you'll go for her, she may be more receptive to your advances again, and you can get to work.

Take her to a romantic restaurant where she had always told you she wants to go but you two never did because you would rather sit through Sunday night football with beer and pizza.  Trying to get your ex back may not be an entirely pleasant or simple experience. However, it will help break the ice and pave the way for a possible reunion.

While you have to make concessions, don't just cater to her.  Make sure you are having fun too because reconciliation with her should not mean punishment for you.  Put your best foot forward, give her the attention she deserves (but you didn't give her before) and wait for her reconcile on equitable terms.
